Introductions

This is the first post to this blog. The title I have chosen, Brownian Notion, tries to capture the theme I want to explore. This derives from "brownian motion" - the random motion of tiny particles of pollen, which can be viewed under a microscope. The particles are so small that they actually get kicked around by the individual molecules of the air that surrounds them. There is no knowing which way they will move next - the little kicks happen at random times and in random directions. Over time the sum total of the little kicks produces a random wandering that usually (but not always) takes the little pollen particles farther and farther from their starting point.
So it is with this blog. I have no idea where this is going to go. The random kicks will be the blog posts, and whatever else happens to me and the world along the way. Over time the little pollen-blog might move into new territory, propelled by random circumstance.
The astute analyst will discern that I have no idea what this blog will be about. I hope it won't be too dull and that a few perple will read it.
